When Should Your Child First See a Dentist?

By the Wellcrysta Dental team

Ideally, a child's first dental visit should happen by the first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing.

The first visit is short and gentle. The dentist looks at the teeth and gums, checks for early decay, and talks to you about brushing, feeding and habits such as thumb-sucking.

Milk teeth matter. They hold space for permanent teeth and help children chew and speak. Decay in milk teeth can cause pain and infection.

Around 12 to 13 years, an orthodontic check helps spot alignment issues early, while the jaw is still growing.
